Is vivo a good brand ?Vivo V15 Pro First Impressions: Is it a masterstroke from Vivo?
The Vivo Phone comes with a price tag of Rs 28,990 and it will be available for purchase from both online and offline channels starting from March 6.
Vivo has finally revealed its next innovation for the masses in the form of a new mid-range smartphone. Yes, we are talking about the Vivo V15 Pro. The phone comes with a price tag of Rs 28,990 and it will be available for purchase from both online and offline channels starting from March 6.
With this, Vivo has introduced a new technological innovation with the pop-up selfie camera. This was first seen in the Vivo’s flagship device, the Vivo NEX. Now, the brand has introduced this same technology at a much affordable price point. However, the question here is whether it will be crowned as the undisputed king in this segment or not? We spent some time with the device and this is what we think of it.
Design and Display
Off lately, we have seen that Vivo has made a complete overhaul in its strategy. The company has now started listening to its users and is providing new technologies to its user base. We have the advent of in-display fingerprint sensor at the mid-range segment with Vivo V11 Pro and now, the company is offering another technological innovation with Vivo V15 Pro. The smartphone is a first in this segment to feature a pop-up selfie camera. The company has crafted this smartphone in a style that is solely meant to give premium look. The back panel of the device features a gradient finish, which looks is surely an eye-soother. The front of the device offers a display with almost non-existent bezels.
If you are wondering where are the light and ambient sensor, it is placed under the screen and Vivo claims that it still works flawlessly. There is a pop-up selfie camera coupled with a headphone jack at the top panel, which comes out automatically when you switch to selfie mode or perform a facial scan. The right side of the device features volume controls and power on/off button, while the left houses a dedicated Google Assistant key for invoking the digital assistant.
The base of the device features a dual-SIM slot along with micro USB port and speaker grille. It is kind of disappointing that Vivo has settled with a micro USB port, while the competition has moved to the USB Type-C port. That said, the Vivo V15 Pro is still one of the best-designed smartphones from Vivo.
Coming to the display, the Vivo V15 Pro features a 6.39-inch Full HD+ Ultra FullView Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution 2340 x 1080 pixels along with a 2.5D curved glass. In our initial testing, we found out that the display delivered some crisp output when as the texts were quite sharp in nature and the deep black levels were quite decent. The viewing angle looks good and so is the colour reproduction of the device.
Hardware and Software
Once you are over with the pop-up selfie camera obsession, you will find that the Vivo V15 Pro delivers some competitive specs as well. The phone is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor, which is paired with a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The memory can be further expanded via microSD card slot. The performance of the Vivo device is yet to be tested out in its full glory, so stay tuned with us for the review of Vivo V15 Pro.
On the software front, the Vivo V15 Pro runs on FunTouch OS, which is based on Android 9.0 Pie. The user interface is now more refined as compared to its predecessor as it now offers smoother animations. We will talk about more about this in our upcoming review.
Camera
On the camera front, the Vivo V15 Pro features a triple-camera setup at the back panel. The primary lens is loaded with a 48-megapixel quad pixel sensor, that delivers an output of 12 million effective pixels along with an 8-megapixel super wide angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. For the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture, which pops up when you open the selfie mode.
In our initial testing, we found out that the phone delivers some crisp photos under broad daylight and low light conditions. The phone is able to capture some good detailing and the colours look good. The selfie camera does a really good when it comes to capturing the details in a selfie.
Battery and Connectivity
On the battery front, the Vivo Vivo V15 Pro is backed by a 3,700 mAh battery and the company is also offering dual engine fast charging solution as well. Although the battery capacity is yet to be tested out, one should get a day’s battery backup with this smartphone. On the connectivity front, the Vivo V15 Pro offers a micro USB port, 4G VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, OTG and dual-SIM support.
Verdict
Vivo V15 Pro seems to be a device to watch out. The smartphone features premium design and the display look great in our opinion. The combination of the triple-camera setup at the rear and the 32-megapixel pop-up selfie camera is the major selling point of this device. The battery seems to be good, though we need to perform a couple of tests to give our final verdict. As for the competition is concerned, the smartphone will face a tough competition with the likes of Asus Zenfone 5Z, Nokia 8.1, Xiaomi Poco F1 and more.
Is vivo a good brand ?
Though Chinese Brand phones do appear sketchy in the beginning, but today in 2018, Chinese Brand phones are more value for money than any phones out there. Chinese manufacters like Huawei, One Plus, Oppo, VIVO, etc are dominating the smartphone market only bested by Korean Heavyweights SAMSUNGs, LGs and Cupertino Giants Apple.
The first thing to consider is the range of smartphone ie the range of budget. There are typically three ranges of smartphone classified accordingly to Bugdet and Specs—
- Low Range Budget Smartphones
- Mid Tier Average Smartphones
- High end Flagship Smartphones
So, in today's market due to tough competition Smartphones are getting better, powerful and cheaper. Even Chinese brands like VIVO offer great value for money with their Low and Mid range phones, but the high ranger phones are meh, just Average.
So, if you are looking for a phone for daily normal usage with slight gaming VIVO phones are really good which start from a price point of $100-$400. Anything out of range isn't worth your time.
